Public invited to 8th annual Holiday Jazz Celebration Holiday music and jazz fans alike are invited to join guitarist and five-time GRAMMY Award-winning producer Marty Ashby for Marty Ashby’s Holiday Jazz Celebration on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7:30p.m., at the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM), 4725 E Mayo Blvd, Phoenix, AZ 85050. This year, Ashby’s all-star ensemble includes Tamir Hendelman on piano, Paul Thompson on bass and Phoenix’s own Dom Moio on drums, with special guest actress/singer Gloria Reuben. For the eighth consecutive year, this jazz celebration has become a tradition at MIM. Since the museum opened in 2009, Ashby has featured dozens of resident and internationally recognized artists to help usher in the holiday season to the Valley. This year’s celebration will include a mix of jazz and holiday favorites with Reuben performing some special selections from her upcoming holiday album. Gloria Reuben is well known for her roles in major films such as “Lincoln,” “Reasonable Doubt” and “Admission,” as well as her appearances in TV series including “Mr. Robot,” “ER” and the upcoming new Marvel series “Cloak & Dagger.” Dave Koz said of Gloria’s latest jazz album Perchance to Dream, “A truly beautiful album from start to finish…amazing playing by phenomenal musicians, great selection of material…but it’s Gloria’s elegant, refined voice that holds the listener.” This year, Ashby’s rhythm section includes Los Angeles, CA based pianist, Tamir Hendelman who is known for his imaginative and sensitive playing and arranging on recordings by Natalie Cole, Barbra Streisand and Roberta Gambarini, as well as Graham Dechter, Richard Galliano and Claudio Roditi. He has been the pianist with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra for over a decade, in addition to fronting his own trio. Pittsburgh bassist Paul Thompson has toured with Stanley Turrentine, Maynard Ferguson, Sean Jones and countless others. Phoenix’s favorite son Dom Moio teaches Latin Jazz at ASU and has performed with all the top musicians in the region and jazz legends including Clark Terry, Ahmad Jamal and Don Menza. Ashby has performed and recorded with Slide Hampton, Claudio Roditi, Nancy Wilson, Paquito D’Rivera, Herbie Mann, Phil Woods, The Dizzy Gillespie™ All-Star Big Band and others. In addition to his musicianship, Ashby is the executive producer of MCG Jazz in Pittsburgh, PA, and has curated and managed national tours for Jazz Across the Americas and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra’s Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald. Advanced concert tickets can be purchased online at or by calling the MIM box office at 480-478-6000.
